Since 2023, adult and juvenile ringed plovers have been colour-ringed at Needs Ore Reserve, beside the Beaulieu River in south west Hampshire, UK.
We are using a single green ring or a yellow over a green ring on the right leg, with 3 other colour-rings on the left leg. The combination of rings allows us to individually identify each bird.
The colour-ringing has been undertaken to aid a joint NE/GWCT/RSPB/Beaulieu Estate study into nesting ringed plovers at Needs Ore Reserve, where positive conservation measures have attracted a high percentage of the whole county's breeding population. We have also ringed a few wintering ringed plovers.
If you see one of our colour-ringed plovers, please send details of your sighting to Graham (see the Contact Page for the email address).
